Indulgent Touches
Luxury travel is no longer only reserved for two-legged guests. Today, top hotels and resorts are rolling out the red carpet for pets, providing top-of-the-line amenities and unparalleled experiences that put your furry friends at the forefront of adventure. “At Balboa Bay Resort, we understand that pets are truly part of the family. For many of our guests, traveling simply isn’t the same without their four-legged companions,” says Isabella Kuehl, Marketing Coordinator for Balboa Bay Resort. “Allowing pets not only eases the stress of travel but also helps guests feel more at home.” Plan a trip to these destinations to stay in style – because everything is better with a dog by your side.
Upon arrival, find a wealth of curated comforts welcoming you and your pet. In Southern California, travelers can indulge in Balboa Bay Resort’s Paws & Relax package, featuring a cozy bed, food and water bowls, a stylish bandanna, and a snack waiting in the room. Or head to La Valencia Hotel in San Diego for a plush pet bed, bowls, a pink tennis ball, and the resort’s signature dog treats with the Pampered Pooches offer. Montage Palmetto Bluff, a picturesque resort nestled amid forest and river in South Carolina’s Lowcountry, also provides beds, bowls, and treats to envelop visitors in Southern hospitality. “These small touches help pets settle in comfortably and allow their owners to relax knowing their companions are cared for,” says Meghan Lamb, Public Relations and Marketing Manager. Montage also asks the pet’s name, breed, and birthday to provide the warmest welcome. All pets at Inn by the Sea, a boutique oceanfront resort on the coast of Maine, enjoy extras: an L.L. Bean sleeping blanket, litter bags, dedicated beach towels, and a handmade bone-shaped treat, delivered with turndown service. Upgrade to the INNcredible Pets package for an L.L. Bean dog bed embroidered with your pet’s name, a Yeti bowl, and toy. In New York City, The Mark offers only top-of-the-line amenities. In addition to signature bowls, a custom place mat, and a plush Molly Mutt bed, “guests will find The Mark’s Woof Woof Kit for on-the-go adventures, which includes a designer collar, leash, waste bags, and portable water bowls,” says General Manager Elon Kenchington.Your furry friend can also enjoy haute couture pieces from the hotel’s exclusive collaboration with Italian brand Poldo Dog Couture, such as tailored bomber jackets and chic raincoats. For the ultimate indulgence, discover Fefé, a limited-edition fragrance born from The Mark’s partnership with Dolce & Gabbana. “It’s a distinctive example of our belief that our four-legged guests deserve the same artistry, well-being, and indulgence as every human guest,” Elon adds.

While most offer pet-sitting services, these pet-friendly resorts also embrace the idea of your pet wandering with you.
Take in views of Newport Beach harbor from the patio of A+O Restaurant | Bar, Balboa Bay Resort’s signature restaurant. The Very Important Pooch menu features Angus ground beef or Jidori chicken with rice. Down at La Valencia Hotel, The Mediterranean Room and La Sala terraces both offer a signature dog menu designed by the executive chef.
Dogs are considered VIPs – Very Important Pets – at Inn by the Sea. It’s only natural that they enjoy their own dedicated gourmet menu, served in the fireplace lounge or on the Sea Glass restaurant deck. “Guests truly appreciate being able to bring their dogs along to enjoy walks on the beach and to share a meal together,” says Rauni Kew, PR and Green Program Manager at Inn by the Sea.
Dine at Montage Palmetto Bluff’s restaurant Octagon, waterfront Mexican-style eatery Fore & Aft, classic American spot Buffalos, or Flame pizza joint for access to a dog menu presenting nutritious options such as Angus beef with rice or chicken with pasta, both served with mixed vegetables. Elevated treats can be found at Buzz coffee shop while Melt ice cream parlor serves up pup cups.
With 20,000 acres to explore, excitement extends beyond the table. Montage Palmetto Bluff even provides maps of its 14 miles of scenic trails. “Many of our guests are joining us from bustling cities, so we are honored to provide the gift of green grass, fresh air, and wide-open spaces where they can slow down, reconnect, and bond with their pets in a way that feels restorative and memorable,” Meghan notes.
Indulgent produce-forward entrées and pet-friendly desserts crafted by Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten fill the Spoiled Dog’s Menu at The Mark, where pets can relax on the terrace at The Mark Restaurant or in the hotel’s lavish penthouses. Pet-friendly picnics can also be assembled for those heading next door to Central Park.
Exploring the Resort
“We have seen through our guests’ feedback as well as trends throughout the industry that travelers increasingly prioritize destinations where their pets feel welcome and valued”

Traveling with your pet can be blissful, but enjoying activities beyond dining and relaxing in the room elevates any stay. “We have seen through our guests’ feedback as well as trends throughout the industry that travelers increasingly prioritize destinations where their pets feel welcome and valued,” says Sierra Prescott, Marketing Manager for La Valencia Hotel, where pup-friendly movie nights and outdoor yappy hours are held regularly. Each of these luxury resorts is well known in their community for hosting events that honor spending time with your pet. California’s sunshine is especially perfect for Balboa Bay Resort’s guided hikes, but the resort also hosts Howl-O-Ween, complete with costume-clad companions and “wag bags” full of toys and treats, with a portion of proceeds benefiting a local rescue. Another Howl-O-Ween – costumes encouraged – is held at Montage Palmetto Bluff, while pets can also attend the Fourth of July Firecracker 5K and Thanksgiving morning Turkey Trot. In addition, a Canine Ambassador program allows travelers to interact with Finch, Cauley, and Bodie, the resort dogs. “For guests who have opted to travel without their own pets and find themselves missing their furry companions while on vacation, the Canine Ambassadors are the perfect remedy,” Meghan says.
Unrivaled Experiences
Unique to Inn by the Sea is a foster program that allows visitors to adopt from the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland. Since its launch, more than 150 dogs have been rescued by guests or employees. Those who can’t adopt take part by playing with the dogs or taking them for walks during their stay. The resort also hosts Dog Days with over-the-top pampering experiences, plus a weeklong Pool Pawty each fall that takes over the hotel swimming pool. Even in the heart of NYC, pets can be a crucial part of the travel experience. From exploring Central Park to shopping at Bergdorf Goodman after a ride aboard The Mark’s signature Pedi-Cab, there are endless experiences to be had. “Pets aren’t simply companions; they’re part of the family narrative, often traveling with guests through multiple life stages,” Elon explains. “We’ve seen families return year after year, where a child first arrives with a puppy and continues visiting as that dog grows older, creating a shared tradition rooted in comfort, nostalgia, and a sense of place at The Mark. As travel trends become more experience-oriented and less destination-focused, guests are looking to build memorable, unique moments alongside their pets.” Whether you embark on a road trip or fly a dog-friendly airline like K9 Jets or BARK Air, your pet will be living the high life. Then, when you arrive, the pampering continues.
